New neurological rehabilitation course for nurses is as welcome development

In a welcome development, nurses can now apply for a new online postgraduate course in neurological rehabilitation and care, as part of a move which aims to address the “growing need” for nurses in this specialism.

The course has been developed at the University of Edinburgh, in partnership with charities RCN Foundation and SameYou. It will focus on the holistic support of the emotional, physical and cognitive needs of people affected by a brain injury and aim to equip nurses to develop advanced specialist knowledge and skills that can be applied globally.

Course organisers said there would be a particular focus on assisting the rehabilitation of people aged 18-40, which is seen as a “relatively neglected” area in existing programmes.

Those who undertake the training will be supported to study whilst continuing to work clinically.

The charities will fund 30 places on the course which is due to start in May 2021 and the first application deadline is 21 December 2021.
